Watersports and Other Facilities. A 40hp aluminium “tinny” runabout, a Mirror dinghy and a two-seat kayak are available to Boathouse guests at no additional cost. These easily access the many beautiful beaches and coral reefs which are only minutes away. From the Boathouse complex, most activities involve going by boat – the further you go from the Puerto Galera harbor, the more secluded the beaches become. The nearby coastal towns of Sabang and La Laguna are home to some of the best dive (and night-life) facilities in Asia. Longer trips are undertaken in motor bancas rented locally at minimal cost. Golf is available at the Ponderosa Golf Course not far away.
Yachting. The Boathouse complex operates two yachts – both 36’ sloops. “Rags” is a Bruce Farr 1104. It was built in 1983, has 7 berths and is in excellent condition. It won the Philippine President’s Cup twice in the past few years. It is fitted with new Kevlar sails, a new Yanmar 29HP engine, and a fractional swept-spreader rig. “Sandoway” is a 1997 Sydney BH 36, and is more of a hi-tech racing yacht, but also spacious and very comfortable for cruising. It has a mast head rig, and horizontal spreaders. Both these yachts are available for separate charter – for day sailing, sunset cruises or possibly overnight cruises to the many beautiful beaches and anchorages around the Verde Island Passage. Have a look at our Yacht Charter Philippines website. They are available for chartering at $ 165/day (or part) which includes skilled boatmen-who will be on board but guests will usually do the sailing -under instruction or otherwise as appropriate. The skilled boatmen must always be on board and will take care if guests go swimming or ashore, or simply sail the yacht while guests relax.
Sail Training. Sail Training – especially for children is also available. This can vary from basic sail training in the Mirror dinghies to advanced yachting skills in the Farr or Sydney 36s. Both yachts provide excellent opportunities for winter-bound competitive race crews to get warm-weather shirt-sleeve racing practice! Mirror training is in coordination with the Puerto Galera Yacht Club’s (PGYC’s) formal training program. has 15 Mirror dinghies and full-time skilled training instructors. All necessary safety gear is provided. See www.pgyc.org.
